“I’m so excited for 2026, especially with our Grade 1s. At Curro Douglasdale, we are a no-homework school in the foundation phase, which means our children get to be kids. When they go home, there’s no homework waiting for them that time is for family, rest and play.”
Gabin also highlighted the school’s catering facilities, offering reassurance to busy parents.
“We are a catering school with two chefs on site, so moms and dads don’t have to worry about packing lunches. Our chefs prepare nutritious, delicious meals for our learners every day.”
Looking ahead to the year, he said the school is excited to officially begin the academic journey for learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7, with a strong focus on holistic development.

“We offer a lot of sport, culture and concerts. We do a concert every single term. We are a dancing, moving and singing school. Alongside academic and sports excellence, culture excellence is something we are very proud of.”
Acknowledging the emotions many parents experience on the first day of school, Gabin offered words of comfort and reassurance.

“To all the parents feeling nervous today, please know that we are nervous too. But most importantly, your children are our priority. You’re not just leaving your child with a teacher, you’re leaving them with a guardian. That’s why we call our educators guardian-teachers.”
Grade 1 teacher Lisa Milln echoed the positive approach to the year, sharing her optimism about the class of 2026.
“I’m feeling very optimistic about this year. I can already see that my class is well-behaved, switched on and eager to learn. I’m hoping for a productive year where I see a lot of progress and growing confidence in the children.”
She emphasised the importance of the foundation phase.
“Grade 1 is such an important year, especially when it comes to learning to read and write. I’m really looking forward to seeing the learners grow and become ready for Grade 2 next year.”
