Starfish Greathearts Foundation calls for even more community support in 2026

As the new year unfolds, the Starfish Greathearts Foundation reflects on a festive act of kindness at Fourways Crossing that continues to change lives, while setting an ambitious and hopeful agenda for supporting vulnerable children and families in 2026.

As we step into 2026, the joy sparked by a festive season initiative at Fourways Crossing is still being felt by families far beyond the mall’s doors.

The Starfish Greathearts Foundation has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Fourways Crossing and its shoppers for their generosity during the mall’s December Donate a Teddy Bear campaign, a small act that has left a lasting impact.

Although the campaign concluded in December, its legacy continues. Through the kindness of the Fourways community, 54 teddy bears were collected and distributed to families in Tembisa, bringing comfort, smiles, and a sense of care to children who need it most.

Skosana Mpiliso, partnerships and engagement officer at Starfish Greathearts Foundation, said: “The festive campaign may have wrapped up, but the warmth it created is still with our beneficiaries. We are deeply grateful to Fourways Crossing and every shopper who took the time to give. These moments of generosity remind us that kindness truly has no expiry date.”

She added that initiatives like these highlight the power of partnerships and community-driven action. “It’s never just about the teddy bears. It’s about the love, dignity, and hope that come with knowing someone cares.”

As the organisation looks ahead, Starfish Greathearts Foundation is using this moment of reflection to call on the public, businesses, and partners to walk alongside them in 2026.

Poonam Dwarkaram, operations manager at Starfish Greathearts Foundation, noted that their plans for 2026 include partnering with more community-based organisations, so that they can ensure better opportunities for the most vulnerable children.

“We hope to scale our reach of health and wellness services to communities where there is little to no access, continue with capacity building, and empower communities to become more sustainable.

“There is so much that we want to do and so many communities that need our help. We simply cannot do this without the support of our funders, patrons, donors, volunteers, and our incredible team.”

Starfish Greathearts Foundation has also extended its appreciation to the Fourways community for making 2025 a successful year of impact.
