Ashley Gindre takes Women’s title at Street Lines Skate Tournament
Before the competition, Ashley Gindre promised herself she would make the podium. She returned with the title instead.
Sourways skater Ashley Gindre (11) won the Women’s division at the Street Lines Skate Tournament at Thrashers Skatepark in Pretoria with a score of 377 points. Gindre finished fourth in the women’s division last year and returned to the competition with something to prove.
Before the event, Gindre said she had been focusing on hand plants, higher rails and more technical tricks to showcase at Street Lines this year.

She also knew she would have to push herself with some of the country’s best skaters competing alongside her, saying the high level of competition drove her to train harder and attempt more difficult tricks in her runs to improve on past scores.
That preparation showed when competition day arrived. Gindre put together a consistent run, starting with a drop-in from the Big Wall before linking a Melon grab 180 on the Quarter Pipe, a 180 Transfer, an Ollie over the Pyramid Hip, a Rock to Fakie on the Quarter Pipe and a kickflip to Fakie on the Pyramid Bank.

She kept some of her biggest moves for the Best Trick section, landing a Melon early grab on the Quarter Pipe and a Melon Grab over the Box. Her 377 points put her ahead of Boipelo Awuah, who finished second on 353 points, while Thabiso Mashiyakgomo took third with 304.
The tournament brought together skaters across the junior, women’s and men’s divisions, with competitors judged on difficulty, consistency, style and how they used the park. Street Lines organiser Ryan van der Spuy said the competition showed how quickly the sport was developing in South Africa.

“This year we saw some amazing performances across all three divisions, from the next generation of skaters in the juniors to an incredibly competitive women’s and men’s field,” said Van der Spuy.
“Seeing Luyanda Vukapi claim the junior title, Ashley Gindre take her first women’s win and Ashton Banwell secure his maiden men’s victory shows just how much talent is coming through. The level of skating continues to rise every year, and we’re proud to provide a platform where both established riders and emerging talent can compete, progress and showcase what South African skateboarding has to offer.”
