Inspired by the desire to foster connection and joy during this special time of year, Carols in the Park was born out of a need for a communal space where residents could come together to celebrate the warmth and traditions of the festive season. The initiative aims to bring neighbours closer, creating an inclusive environment where lasting friendships can blossom.

“The primary purpose of Carols in the Park is to foster a strong sense of community within greater Lonehill. This event provides an opportunity for residents to come together, celebrate the holiday season, and create meaningful connections. It’s about building relationships, supporting local causes, and creating lasting memories for families of all ages,” explains Shelley Miller, from the Lonehill Residents Association.

What began as a small local gathering 16 years ago has evolved into a much-anticipated tradition, drawing crowds eager to partake in the joy of carol singing and holiday festivities. Each year, the event continues to grow, showcasing the incredible spirit of togetherness that has become synonymous with the Lonehill community.

“Entertainment for the children includes Christmas arts and crafts, jumping castles, and a visit from Father Christmas and his helpers, with sweet treats. Pupils from the Carlswald House Preparatory School music ensemble will perform a 30-minute carol sing-a-long with the children. The second part of the programme will be led by Steven Lee Lewis and Taslyn ‘Royal T’ Prinsloo with more Christmas songs and carols.”
