The Starfish Greathearts Foundation sends its festive season wishes
Celebrating 23 years of uplifting vulnerable children, the Starfish Greathearts Foundation expressed its festive season wishes, reflecting on its achievements in 2024 and looking forward to the year to come.
The Starfish Greathearts Foundation, a Fourways-based NGO and NPO for over 23 years, is celebrating its commitment to supporting vulnerable and orphaned children aged 0 to 6 years.
The foundation has made significant strides in providing nutrition, early childhood development (ECD), health and wellness services, and social support, including key documentation assistance like birth certificates and Road to Health booklets.
As the year comes to a close, the foundation is proud to reflect on its numerous accomplishments achieved through the collective efforts of funders, donors, volunteers, patrons, and its dedicated team. Despite facing various challenges throughout the year, the organization remains resolute in its mission to ensure that no child in their care gets left behind.

The foundation has experienced remarkable growth in its outreach, with highlighted achievements including new partnerships with like-minded organizations and initiatives aimed at improving early literacy in its centres.
The Operations Manager of the foundation, Poonam Dwarkaram, explained: “This year, we distributed over 5 000 books to the children, empowering them to build their mini-libraries at home. Education is a fundamental right, and we believe in equipping children with the necessary tools to foster a love for reading.”

In addition to literacy initiatives, the foundation has prioritized parental engagement, conducting training for 168 parents on the importance of ECD as part of a national rollout training project. They recently celebrated the success of their inaugural high tea event, which raised awareness and support for their cause.
Looking forward to the new year, the Starfish Greathearts Foundation has ambitious plans for new projects, events, and partnerships designed to further its mission. “While we are excited about what lies ahead, we recognize that our ability to achieve these goals hinges on the support of our community,” added Dwarkaram.
As the festive season approaches, the foundation’s team extends its heartfelt wishes to the residents of Fourways for a blessed, happy, and safe holiday season. “Together, we can continue to make a lasting impact in the lives of those most in need. On behalf of the team at Starfish Greathearts Foundation, I wish the Fourways residents a blessed, happy, and safe festive season, Happy Holidays”
