TimiaAfrica steps up for people with disabilities at Witkoppen Clinic
Non-profit organisation TimiaAfrica, has fought a good fight by heeding the call for medical devices at Witkoppen Clinic.
Building a fairer and more just society is at the heart of TimiaAfrica’s mission. As a non-profit organisation, they strive to promote social cohesion by addressing issues of equality, diversity, and inclusion through their health, education, and alternative dispute resolution programmes.
Recently, TimiaAfrica responded to a community need by collecting and donating crutches and walkers to Witkoppen Clinic. This initiative not only provided essential medical devices to those in need but also marked the beginning of a larger conversation about disability awareness and social inclusion.
Samir Makan, the lead for growth and development, as well as a board member of the organisation, said it was calls to community members that resulted in a generous response from the community, making the donations.

“We realised the need for these devices and donated them to Witkoppen Clinic, where there is a constant need for these and other medical devices and supplies,’ he added. “By collaborating with Witkoppen, they will give these to patients in need. Where TimiaAfrica can assist Witkoppen in their goals, they help us in achieving ours, which is to create a socially cohesive society through giving in health and peace. Our focus is not on mobile aids, it was the response from the community, and then our collaboration with Witkoppen, where the need was the greatest.
“We donated the medical devices to Witkoppen to give to those recipients that need them. We trust and believe that Witkoppen will do what’s best for the community and the recipients of the crutches.”

Makan said they plan to educate, create awareness, and have dialogues of such issues in the community. In fact, they have already started because they host monthly dialogues, recording podcasts which seek to educate, ‘the man on the street’, about various disabilities and people with disabilities.
“We will include this community as to ensure that their voices are heard. The community can get involved by supporting our various projects, initiatives, and fundraising events, as well as getting involved in our dialogues and making their voices heard.
