Paws for a Cause

The South African Guide-Dogs Association got tales wagging and big smiles with their annual family fun day.

South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind hosted families for a fun family day on March 9.

Nicole Barros of the association described the event as ‘very special,’ noting that it was the only time the doors were opened to the public each year in such an interactive format.

Attendees had an opportunity to witness live demonstrations showcasing how guide dogs are trained to assist visually impaired individuals. “We want the community to understand what we do and to get involved,” she said.

“The event not only offered insights into the important role of guide dogs but also served as a vital fundraising initiative. All proceeds from the day will directly support the training of more assistance dogs and practitioners, ensuring greater independence for visually impaired members of the community.”

The Family Fun Day also featured a variety of local vendors and special guests, including the K9 Law Enforcement Team and the Ground Search and Rescue Team, who engaged the crowd with captivating demonstrations.
