Woodrock won’t stop rescuing animals

Woodrock Animal Rescue is seeking donations to continue with their efforts to cater for animals in need. Join them at their cat café, thrift store, or pop in to the rescue to see the animals they have for adoption.

Woodrock Animal Rescue, a renowned animal welfare organisation, has been a pillar of compassion in the field of pro-life animal rescue for 37 years.

As the organisation’s digital and social media manager, QueAnne Southwood, aptly puts it: “We envision a future where animals no longer suffer needlessly, and we work tirelessly toward this goal.”

At the heart of Woodrock Animal Rescue’s mission is a steadfast commitment to supporting disadvantaged communities through their food and sterilisation drives, known as Outreach. The organisation also cares for abused and neglected animals, providing a safe haven for those in need.

One of the organisation’s most notable successes are its education and medication programmes for animals. “In 2024, we assessed the impact of our initiatives through compelling statistics that reflect our mission.

Some of our recent achievements include 2 238 sterilisation procedures completed, 954 lives positively impacted through adoptions, and approximately 400 school visits, tours, and initiatives.”

The organisation’s community upliftment initiatives have also been a resounding success. The Woodrock Cat Café, located in Kyalami, has become a beloved sanctuary for relaxation, education, and joy.

“Woodrock Cat Café emerged in response to the increasing demand for cat-assisted therapy and cat pop-ups. Our café is designed to cater to the needs of cat lovers, providing a serene and stylish setting where visitors can unwind and connect with our delightful cats.”

The animal rescue has also launched a thrift store in Fourways, which contributes to the organisation’s mission. “Every purchase made at Woodrock Thrift directly supports the operations at Woodrock shelter, and caters to the needs of all our animals. Additionally, funds generated contribute significantly to our sterilisation clinic, which assists animals in need of sterilisation.”

She said their long-term goals are centred around promoting pet responsibility, animal welfare, and education. “We aim to continuously inform the public about responsible pet ownership and the critical need for sterilisation in our country. By adopting a rescue, you not only provide a dog with a second chance at life but also create space for us to continue our rescue efforts.”

For those looking to get involved and support Woodrock Animal Rescue’s efforts, there are numerous ways to do so. Southwood said: “You can choose to adopt instead of supporting breeders, sponsor a kennel, consider fostering, donate items to our thrift store, or visit the Woodrock Cat Café. Every contribution, big or small, makes a significant difference in the lives of the animals in our care.
