Knitwits to host a knitathon for Mother’s Day
The movement, which knits for a good cause, is asking the community to join them on the special day for mothers, to learn how to knit and crochet for those in need.
Knitwits’ latest project is as soft as a mother’s love, wrapping the community in warmth and kindness this Mother’s Day.
With their signature knits and crafts, the Knitwits are hosting a special knitathon event on May 9 and 10 in Dainfern.
The KnitWits refers to a movement, primarily associated with the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day project, which was launched by Carolyn Steyn over a decade ago. The group is calling on the community to join them in creating blankets for those in need.

“Our Mother’s Day activation is about creating awareness about 67 Blankets and the work we do, as well as imparting some creative skills to the Dainfern community. It will take place as a knitathon, lots of people knitting and crocheting and teaching. It will also be a meet and greet format, engaging with customers and creating social awareness by encouraging people to donate wool and get involved,” said the ambassador of the movement, Lisa Mancer.
“People of all ages will be able to learn to knit or crochet. People are then encouraged to join the 67 Blankets family on Facebook or Instagram, and to join a group in their area to knit and crochet throughout the year to help keep the vulnerable warm. Everybody is welcome.”
The event is advertised on all 67 Blankets social media pages, as well as on the visual boards at the Dainfern Square centre and their social media pages.

“Kismet Yarns and Jawitz Properties will be partnering with us, and from April 28 we will be on their socials. No registration is required, and a ball of wool, as well as knitting needles and crochet hooks, will be sponsored in order to get started.”
