Community called to get flu shots at Witkoppen Clinic

The clinic offers flu vaccines to community members to prevent severe colds this winter.

With winter fast approaching, it’s more important than ever to take proactive steps to safeguard your health and the well-being of those around you.

That is why Witkoppen Clinic is calling the community to take advantage of the flu vaccine that the non-profit healthcare facility is offering.

Sbonga Shange, the marketing and communications officer of the clinic, said, “We remain dedicated to delivering quality healthcare and essential services to support our patients and the broader community throughout the colder months. The flu vaccine is now available at our mainstream clinic on a first-come, first-served basis, and through the Tswelopele Opt-in booked service.”

He said getting a flu shot was one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and those around you. The flu vaccine offers a range of important benefits that contribute to both personal and public health.

“The flu vaccine helps strengthen your immune system and significantly lowers your chances of contracting the virus. Vaccination is especially important for high-risk groups, including young children, the elderly, pregnant individuals, and people with underlying health conditions. For these groups, the flu can lead to severe complications like pneumonia or even hospitalisation. The vaccine provides them with an added layer of protection.”

Shange added that the flu vaccine reduced the overall spread of the virus, including those who were unable to receive the flu shot due to certain medical conditions.

“If you do catch the flu after being vaccinated, the illness is generally much milder. This means fewer sick days and a faster recovery, with a lower risk of serious complications. The flu vaccine will be offered until stocks run out. We encourage all eligible individuals to take advantage of this opportunity to stay protected this winter.
