Witkoppen Clinic’s Tswelopele Opt-In Service marks 2 years of booking an appointment made easier

Two years on, the Tswelopele Opt-In Service is continuing to make an indelible mark on the lives of patients looking for assistance at Witkoppen Clinic.

The Tswelopele Opt-In Service at Witkoppen Clinic has left an indelible mark on the lives of many, including Lindokuhle Sefara, a grateful mother who named her bouncing baby girl after the service in appreciation of the exceptional care she received from the Witkoppen staff during a challenging time.

This heartfelt gesture speaks volumes about the service’s commitment to delivering compassionate and patient-centred medical care. Tswelopele is a Sesotho word that means progress. The clinic introduced Tswelopele as an opt-in service in February 2023, to make booking appointments for consultations easier for residents.

The service recently celebrated its second anniversary, and the clinic’s Sbonga Shange could not help but gush with pride. “We are delighted to see it grow. We warmly encourage our patients to discover the variety of services we provide, and to take advantage of this convenient offering.”

He added that the Tswelopele Opt-In Service is a fast-track service solution tailored for individuals seeking medical care on their schedule. “Patients can secure an appointment with a clinician, receive the care they need, and quickly return to work or home for a reasonable fee. This service is especially ideal for those who can’t afford to spend an entire day away from their responsibilities, but still require prompt and professional attention.”

Witkoppen Clinic is a non-profit organisation that provides comprehensive, high-quality, primary healthcare and social welfare services. It has been operating since 1946 and provides healthcare services to more than 7 000 patients each month.

The activities of the clinic rely on donor funding. It is currently seeking donations to keep its HIV programme functional, after it was affected when USAID was defunded by the American government, pulling funding from South Africa.
