Lonehill residents help revamp the local park
A collective effort by residents and local businesses has transformed Lonehill Upper East Park, bringing new play equipment and a mini library.
Lonehill residents can now enjoy a brighter, safer, and more welcoming park, a shining example of what the community can achieve when they come together with a shared purpose.
The Lonehill Resident Association team and local businesses have given the Lonehill Upper East Park a much-needed upgrade, transforming it into a space that children and families can enjoy with pride.
Shelly Miller, the spokesperson for the association, explained that this initiative was part of the Let’s Go MAD (Make A Difference) campaign, which encourages residents to take active roles in improving their surroundings.

Over recent weeks, a group of passionate volunteers helped revamp a jungle gym purchased from a resident moving house, installed a cheerful mini library, and added a comfortable bench generously donated by Jawitz Properties. These simple yet meaningful improvements aim to bring joy and foster community spirit.
One of the standout features is the new mini library, a vibrant, inviting ‘book exchange’ that encourages reading and sharing among neighbours.
“These fun, bright libraries promote community living and boost the use of our parks. We already have four in the greater Lonehill area, and we’re excited to expand this initiative further.”

Keith Rampton, the association’s general manager, played a key role in bringing the library to life. His passion for woodworking led him to volunteer his skills to build the library box.
“I believe we all need to give back to the community where we live. Using my skills to create something that benefits everyone is truly rewarding. It’s a small act that can make a big difference.”
Rampton emphasises that community involvement was the heart of these projects. “When we all contribute just a little, we can create a better environment for our children and neighbours. Supporting initiatives like this aligns with the association’s goal of improving safety, security, and green spaces for all residents to enjoy.”
Meanwhile, with the winter settling in on the highveld, the LRA Green Team has been clearing fallen leaves, trimming grass and removing the Kariba weed in the dam.

The association also announced that the Lonehill Koppie was closed to allow the surrounding ecosystem to regenerate. “This pause helps the area recover and gives local wildlife the space to hibernate undisturbed,” said Miller.
Residents are encouraged to get involved by supporting the association’s initiatives and donating books to the libraries. Lauren de Beer, a resident and book lover, keeps the libraries stocked and welcomes contributions. Donations can be arranged by contacting the association at 011 465 9196 or dropping books off at the association’s offices during office hours.
