Just 1 day left: Residents urged to save water ahead of Rand Water’s 4-Day maintenance
Rand Water’s pipeline maintenance could leave parts of Fourways, Sandton, Midrand, and Alexandra with low pressure or no water.
Ward 115 Councillor Mark van der Marwe urges residents to use water sparingly during next week’s Rand Water maintenance to avoid unnecessary outages across the city.
This follows after Rand Water announced a four-day maintenance plan on the bulk water supplier’s O2 pipeline, set to take place from July 15 to 18.
The maintenance will affect the Sandton systems, Alexandra Park reservoir, South Hills tower, Randjieslaagte reservoir, Linksfield reservoir, and Midrand systems.
Pumping will be reduced, which may result in some areas experiencing poor pressure or intermittent to no water during the four days.

“During this period, the Sandton System that supplies the Bryanston Reservoir, which in turn supplies some of Ward 115, will operate at 67%, “ he said.
Van der Marwe stressed that if residents use water sparingly, Johannesburg Water does not foresee a full water outage in the area.
“Should there be a water outage, then after 24 hours, we will receive two water tankers for the ward.
Johannesburg Water has stipulated that one will be deployed just below Fourways High School and another outside SAPS Douglasdale.”
Rand Water said the maintenance is necessary ahead of the higher-demand season starting in August and forms part of its ongoing work to stabilise the O2 pipeline.

Johannesburg Water has encouraged all residents to store water in preparation for the maintenance and warned that it may take a while for systems to fully recover after the work is completed.
“Arrangements will be made for alternative water supplies to affected areas should it be required,” Johannesburg Water confirmed.
