Four-Way Stop installed at Platina and Robyn roads after three-year campaign
After years of community efforts and persistent advocacy, residents of Fourways can breathe a sigh of relief as a dangerous intersection finally gets the safety upgrade it desperately needed.
After three years of persistent effort and community advocacy, a new four-way stop has finally been installed at the busy intersection of Platina and Robyn roads in Fourways.
This long-overdue safety measure aims to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow at a notoriously hazardous crossing.
The push for this change was driven by residents and local representatives alike. Ward 115 councillor Mark Van der Merwe expressed his gratitude to the community members who refused to accept repeated denials and continued to voice their concerns.

Van der Merwe explained that the requests for a four-way stop at Platina and Robyn roads were submitted for three consecutive years, but each time, they were turned down. The turning point came after inspections revealed that the line of sight from the intersection had significantly deteriorated, making it unsafe for drivers. Consequently, authorities recognised the urgent need for a four-way stop to enhance safety.
He added that the road intersection has been a hotspot for accidents, with reports indicating several incidents each month over recent years. While exact figures vary, the frequency of accidents underscores the necessity for immediate intervention to protect residents and motorists alike.
“If motorists respect the stop signs, we can expect a substantial reduction in accidents at this intersection,” added Van der Merwe.
