Fourways community delivers hope to The Cradle again
A second round of blankets, food, and clothing from the Fourways-Douglasdale community arrived at The Cradle of Hope NPC in Krugersdorp West, ensuring hundreds of vulnerable women and children stay warm and fed this winter.
The spirit of giving is alive in Fourways and Douglasdale, as residents have once again opened their hearts to help those most in need.
Under the annual RE/MAX Coats and Cans Collection, a second load of food, clothing, and blankets was delivered on July 8 to The Cradle of Hope NPC South Africa in Krugersdorp West.
Earlier this year, a bakkie-load of donations was delivered at the start of June, following a drive outside the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Fourways. This latest delivery comes as winter tightens its grip, and The Cradle of Hope’s need for food, blankets, and financial support grows daily.

Susan Mottram from RE/MAX Masters, who is leading this drive, explained that this delivery was the second for this year’s drive. “Once again, the Fourways-Douglasdale community showed up, opened their hearts, and were incredibly generous. Blankets, in particular, are very much needed, and it’s heartwarming to see how our community always responds to help those in need.”
The Cradle of Hope, founded by Melodie van Brakel in 2007, assists more than 2 000 vulnerable people every month, with a particular focus on abused, abandoned, and at-risk women and children. It runs 15 active people-upliftment programmes, including safe homes for women and children, public feeding schemes that provide meals to 500 people daily, and substance dependency recovery support.
“What appeals to me about The Cradle is that they actively and successfully help large numbers of people, regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation. They are God-funded, and they walk in faith, but their needs are huge, especially in winter,” added Mottram.

The organisation receives no government funding and is 100% reliant on the generosity of the public and corporate sponsors to cover its monthly costs of R800 000 to maintain its lifeline projects.
Currently, The Cradle’s most pressing needs are a reliable bread, peanut butter, and jam donor for its feeding schemes, which operate every day.

“Thank you to our Fourways-Douglasdale community for always coming to the fore, and thank you to The Cradle for the incredible work you do. We hope more people will step forward to help support this vital organisation.”
