Ward 94 gets kerbs while Ward 96 gets excuses from JRA
While one ward sees fresh kerbs and walkways, another is still waiting on resurfacing promised months ago.
As northern Fourways residents call for lasting infrastructure fixes, councillors in Wards 94 and 96 report sharply contrasting updates – from visible progress to months-long delays and persistent potholes.
At the corner of Richard and Bushwallow Roads, Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) teams have been repairing kerbs and restoring the pedestrian walkway after the road was redone due to recurring potholes.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley visited the site last week to provide a field update.
“JRA are busy fixing up the kerbs around the traffic circle,” said Foley. “The old piping and sand have been removed, and the pedestrian walkway is complete. The remaining curb work further down Richard Road should be done in the next few days, with a final inspection to follow.”

He praised the team’s efficiency and highlighted the value of these upgrades.
“These may seem like minor improvements, but they make a big difference in day-to-day safety and accessibility for our residents.”
In neighbouring Ward 96, however, councillor Rufas Maswazi expressed growing frustration over stalled repairs on roads such as Pine Road near the Bushwillow intersection.
“All the pothole queries have been escalated to the JRA team not once, but continuously,” said Maswazi.
“The JRA team is very much aware of the situation.”
After following up again on July 12, Maswazi said he was told resurfacing is planned but delayed due to resources being redirected to Region B.

“I pressed JRA for a turnaround time. They said ‘Let’s give it two more weeks,’ but they’ve been telling me that for the past four months.”
Maswazi assured residents that all complaints are being documented and forwarded.
“Every message you send me on this matter is forwarded to the team. I’m not letting it go.”
JRA was contacted for comment regarding Maswazi’s requests, but no response was received by the time of publication.
