Illegal dumping crisis deepens in Chartwell and Farmall

Farmall residents alarmed as Kindred Avenue succumbs to mounting rubble and trash.

Illegal dumping in Chartwell and Farmall continues to spiral out of control, with residents raising alarm over the worsening state of their community.

A large pile of rubble, building material and household waste has now taken over sections of Kindred Avenue, creating an eyesore and posing serious health and environmental risks.

Resident, Rosalee Nel, who has been vocal about the issue, previously told Fourways Review that the problem has made it impossible for residents to even enjoy the neighbourhood.

“It’s getting unbearable. You can’t enjoy a simple walk or jog without stepping around debris. This isn’t just unsightly, it’s unsafe and unhygienic,” said a frustrated Nel.

Nel said the new dumping along Kindred Avenue appears to be linked to limited access to official disposal sites, with some people choosing to leave waste on the roadside rather than transport it legally.

Residents are calling for visible ‘No Dumping’ signage and stricter enforcement measures to minimise the problem, hoping that repeated complaints to authorities will provide tangible results.

Ward 96 councillor Rufas Maswazi confirmed he had escalated the complaints to the city’s service delivery team.

“The response from Pikitup is still not forthcoming,” he said.

Maswazi urged residents to also report illegal dumping directly to Pikitup at 011 688 1500 or illegaldumping@pikitup.co.za.

Fourways Review reached out to Muzi Mkhwanazi, the Pikitup spokesperson, for comment on August 27. More information will be provided once it becomes available.
