Paulshof left in the dark as traffic lights stay broken

Residents warn of daily dangers at key Witkoppen intersections as non-operational traffic lights remain unfixed.

Paulshof residents are voicing growing frustration over traffic lights that have remained out of order for more than a year at two key intersections, creating ongoing safety risks and traffic congestion.

The affected points include the traffic lights between Main and Witkoppen roads, as well as those near 220 Witkoppen Road.

Concerned resident Mike Msophi said that the outages cause ‘constant traffic congestion and daily frustration for motorists’.

“These lights are not just an inconvenience; they are a real danger. Every day, you see near-misses because people don’t know who has the right of way. As a community, we’ve raised this issue countless times, but nothing has been done. It feels like our safety is simply not a priority.”

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy echoed the concerns, stressing that the issue has been repeatedly raised without resolution.

“The request to fix these has been repeatedly ignored or passed over the last two years. I call on the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to make funds available to fix these traffic lights, as residents constantly dice with death or the fear of accidents.

Most motorists on Witkoppen do not stop or even yield, thereby making the intersection dangerous for egress and entrance,” Reddy said.

Fourways Review contacted the department for comment on September 2 and followed up again on September 4. No response was received at the time of going to print. Updates will be provided once a response is received.
