A 4 senses guided launch for Shades Day 2025

The SA Guide Dogs Association for the Blind launched Shades Day 2025 with a sensory experience called Around the World in 4 Senses.

The SA Guide Dogs Association for the Blind has launched its Shades Day 2025 campaign with a unique sensory experience called Around the World in 4 Senses. Guests were blindfolded and guided through taste, smell, touch, and sound to gain insight into the daily realities of living without sight.

The campaign builds momentum towards Wear Your Shades Day on October 18, when South Africans are encouraged to put on their sunglasses, purchase a R20 Shades Day sticker, and show their support for individuals with visual impairments.

Funds raised will go directly towards the association’s vital programmes, including the training of guide dogs, long cane mobility, and essential life skills that empower people with visual and physical disabilities.

Supporters can purchase stickers at participating outlets, including Falco Milano, Pet World, Big Blue, and Buco stores nationwide. Schools and organisations are encouraged to place bulk orders by emailing melanieN@guidedog.org.za

To spread awareness, participants are invited to post a photo of themselves wearing their shades and sticker on social media, tagging @sa_guide_dogs, and using the hashtags #ShadesDay #ShareYourShine.

Exciting prizes are up for grabs for the most creative entries. For more information, or to get involved, visit: www.guidedog.org.za
