Cedarwood School shines in colour and culture for Heritage Day celebrations
Cedarwood School embraced Heritage Day in two parts. Across both events, the campus was colourful in traditional attire, vibrant performances, and a shared pride in South Africa’s diverse heritage.
Cedarwood School turned into a vibrant rainbow of culture and pride as teachers and learners stepped out in dazzling traditional attire to celebrate Heritage Day on two occasions.
The Preparatory School marked the occasion on September 23, while the College carried the baton on September 26, and on both days, teachers and learners came dressed to impress in their finest traditional attire.

From bright shweshwe prints to beaded accessories, headwraps, and flowing gowns, the school grounds reflected the rainbow nation that is Mzansi.
This was also a joyful reminder of the richness of South Africa’s diverse heritage and a proud moment for the Cedarwood community to come together and honour the traditions that make the country so unique.
Shannon Jacobs, the deputy headmistress at Cedarwood Preparatory, said the assembly began with a moving rendition of the South African National Anthem and continued with a series of lively and informative presentations.

“The children showcased their knowledge and pride in their heritage through creative performances that were both entertaining and enlightening.

“Highlights of the event included energetic dance performances such as the popular Waka Waka and freestyle amapiano, which had the audience fully engaged and celebrating the rhythm and joy of South African culture.”
She said the event concluded with a spirited performance by the school’s marimba band, leaving the audience with a deep sense of national pride and community spirit.

“The assembly was a powerful reminder of the importance of unity in diversity, and a testament to the creativity and enthusiasm of Cedarwood Prep’s pupils and educators.”
Dr Phillip Kotze, the headmaster at Cedarwood College, said it was an important event for the College to celebrate its rich heritage and culture through vibrant dance, delicious food, and traditional wear, uniting its community in pride and joy.
