Fourways volunteers take action to clean up Diepsloot

Fourways volunteers joined hands with locals in Diepsloot Section 5 for a powerful clean-up mission, led by the Live Life Always Litter Picking Up Foundation.

A group of passionate volunteers from Fourways came together to clean up parts of Diepsloot in Section 5. The initiative, on October 18, was part of a community-driven effort to create a cleaner and healthier environment.

Led by the Live Life Always Litter Picking Up Foundation, the initiative aimed to transform the township into what the foundation’s founder and director, Lovemore Robson, calls a ‘Sunshine City’, a place where residents take pride in their surroundings and work together for positive change.

Armed with gloves, bags, and determination, seven volunteers from Fourways and Diepsloot spent the day cleaning dump areas and picking up litter.

The goal, Lovemore explained, was not only to keep the community clean, but also to teach residents about environmental responsibility and sustainable living. “We want to show that change starts with us. Our dream is to turn Diepsloot into a ‘Sunshine City’, a place that shines with pride, hope, and cleanliness.”

While the volunteers’ enthusiasm was clear, the project faced challenges. One of the main hurdles was a lack of donations, as the team relies heavily on support from sponsors.

Looking ahead, Lovemore hopes to attract more sponsors and community partners, so that the team can expand its reach and continue improving the environment across Diepsloot.

“We believe in leading by example. With more support, we can empower more people and show that our community can take care of itself.”

The foundation plans to continue hosting regular clean-up days, encouraging residents to get involved and take pride in their community, one street at a time.
