City brings billing support closer to residents with Region A Revenue Open Day

Residents flock to Fourways Crossing as the city offers face-to-face help with municipal billing, rebates and debt relief support.

The City of Johannesburg brought municipal services closer to residents to host a Revenue Open Day for Region A communities at Fourways Crossing on February 14.

Nkosana Lekotjolo, spokesperson for the city’s Group Finance Department, said the initiative formed part of the city’s ongoing efforts to assist residents and property owners with municipal account-related queries by providing direct access to officials.

Residents from Midrand, Halfway House, Dainfern, Rabie Ridge, Ivory Park, Glen Austin, Kyalami and Paulshof were encouraged to attend the outreach event, which ran from 08:00 to 15:00.

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy, who facilitated bringing the event to the area, said many residents struggle to resolve billing disputes through traditional service channels.

“I asked for the revenue day to be brought to the ward because many residents are experiencing billing issues with Johannesburg Water and city revenue.

“A lot of people cannot get to the centres and find the city to be faceless. This is one way that we can get people to communicate directly with the city. With both front and back office staff present, we hope to resolve residents’ issues much quicker.”

Reddy added that the open day included city personnel to ensure seamless service delivery and minimise delays. He encouraged residents experiencing billing problems, rebate queries or excessive accounts to make use of the opportunity.

Lekotjolo explained that the Revenue Open Day allows residents to address issues relating to municipal services billed monthly, including electricity, water, refuse removal, sewer charges and property rates.

“This is an opportunity for customers to engage face-to-face with technical experts, including officials from City Power Johannesburg, meter readers and finance specialists.

“Residents can resolve account disputes, request meter readings, or enter into payment arrangements if they are experiencing financial difficulties.”

He highlighted the city’s debt relief programme, which aims to support struggling households and businesses. Pensioners may qualify for up to 100% debt write-offs and property rate rebates, depending on eligibility criteria.

Lekotjolo added that these open days are one of many rotating across different regions, ensuring residents throughout the city can access services more conveniently.
