Fourways women find healing and connection through My Sista Myself

The gathering invites women to set aside their titles and responsibilities, offering a safe space to simply be, through mindfulness, reflection, and sisterhood.

Watching how women juggle work, family, and caregiving, Alecia Maifadi realised something was missing: A safe space where women could simply be.

That realisation led to the creation of My Sista Myself, a monthly gathering designed to offer women a grounded, judgment-free environment to pause and reconnect with themselves and one another.

“Many women carry a lot, quietly,” said Maifadi. “We show up for everyone else, but often don’t have spaces where we can just be, without expectations or needing to perform.”

Inspired by her own journey of self-discovery and healing, Maifadi created My Sista Myself after noticing how many women were navigating burnout, emotional fatigue, and identity shifts in isolation.

The space encourages mindfulness, honest conversation, and shared presence, reminding participants that they don’t have to journey alone.

he most recent gathering, held on February 7, focused on reflecting on 2025 and planting intentions for 2026, a theme Maifadi said felt especially important in a season where many women are constantly moving forward without taking time to pause.

“Reflection allows us to honour what the year has asked of us, the lessons, the growth, the challenges, and even the things we are ready to release.” She said a powerful moment during the session was the symbolic planting of a seedling, representing each woman’s intention for the year ahead.

“Planting intentions is about shifting from survival to conscious creation. Rather than rushing into another year on autopilot, we invited women to choose how they want to feel, lead, and show up moving forward. Growth is a process. It requires patience, care, and trust.”

Each My Sista Myself session is intentionally gentle and structured. Women begin with breathwork or guided mindfulness to help them transition from the business of daily life into the present moment. Reflective activities, such as journaling, intention-setting, and symbolic practices, including nature walks or releasing exercises, allow emotions and insights to surface naturally.

Participants are also invited to share, always by choice. “Being listened to and witnessed without interruption or judgment is deeply healing. It reminds women that their experiences are valid. What’s been especially powerful is watching women begin to trust themselves again. That ripple effect extends into their families, workplaces, and relationships.”

Facilitating the sessions has been just as transformative for Maifadi.

“This space has taught me that leadership doesn’t always look like having the answers. Sometimes it’s simply about creating room for truth, connection, and healing to unfold. There’s nothing wrong with you. It’s often a sign that you’ve been giving so much of yourself for a very long time. Your reset journey doesn’t require a big leap. Sometimes, it begins with one small, courageous decision to choose yourself.”
