Ward 93 councillor catches illegal dumpers in the act at Clay Oven settlement
Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy says exploiting vulnerable communities as dumping grounds is unacceptable.
Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy caught alleged illegal dumpers in the act at the Clay Oven informal settlement in Paulshof after responding to reports from residents.
Reddy arrived at the settlement to find a truck in the process of offloading rubble and immediately intervened to stop the dumping.

“This is completely unacceptable. It is so sad that people take advantage of the situation at Clay Oven because of how it looks. They think they can dump whatever they want here, but this is still a community where people live.”
The truck was prevented from completing the dumping, and those responsible were instructed to remove the waste.
When Reddy asked what they were doing, they denied that they were illegally dumping what looked like domestic waste.
Reddy said residents of the settlement are already living under difficult conditions and should not have to endure illegal dumping on top of that.

“The people of Clay Oven don’t want to stay here forever. They want to be relocated and have access to better living conditions. Instead of respecting them, some people see the area as a dumping ground, and that is simply wrong.”
He also urged the residents of the informal settlement to clean up after themselves.
Reddy commended residents for remaining vigilant and reporting the incident, saying community involvement was essential in protecting neighbourhoods from environmental abuse.

“I urge people to stop doing this. Illegal dumping is a crime, and it harms the environment, creates health hazards and shows a complete lack of respect for the people who live here.
If you have waste to dispose of, use the proper facilities instead of dumping it in communities.”
Fourways Review informed the Metro police about the truck that was caught in the act of illegally dumping rubble at the informal settlement.
