I am a resident of Fourways and would like to bring to the reader’s attention the risk of fatal accidents on William Nicol Drive from the new Telsure offices to the Leaping Frog Centre.
The road is congested from early morning to late evening with motorists breaking the rules of the road, speeding and unlawful overtaking. I challenge any organisation to research the number of road users on this stretch. Taxis generally overtake by going onto the oncoming lane risking the lives of their passengers and road users due to the frustration of the congestion.
The road is not lit up so it is very dark and the potholes and uneven surfaces pose a risk in keeping your vehicle in control. The lanes have been narrowed with big vehicles squeezing into the lanes and often going onto the oncoming lane.
The almost non-existent space between oncoming lanes as well as the speeding and no law enforcement of speed limits has also become problematic. Road rage is high with motorists angry at taxis cutting them off and jumping queues.
There is only one lane open to cross over William Nicol Drive at Uranium Road, the middle and left turning lane has been dug up.
Metro police need to be visible, directing traffic when necessary.
We understand that road needs to be developed, but road safety needs to be priority number one and not at the expense of human life.
