Recently I saw a boy on the news who is 18 years old and is a caregiver by day and a student by night.
He has a choice to do whatever seems right to help himself through a challenging situation as he has no parents to guide him.
Despite all his challenges, the boy just gets on with life. However, behind bars I have heard so many excuses from fellow inmates who try and justify their crimes. I am not exonerating myself either, but it breaks my heart to see ordinary people who have it tough in their lives, but they never opt for the short cuts.
So if people can come to realise that it is not about what happened to them, but rather it is how you think and react to the situation that matters. We all learn from our mistakes.
Some of our lives are full of shameful excuses.
