When one is cooped up at home for so long, one does get super excited about an outing – which means taking out the dustbin or going to get groceries lends itself to some serious wardrobe decision making.
My excitement was palpable two days ago when I did the food run, and for a moment, the ballgown and tiara nearly won. Fortunately I calmed the heck down but then nearly settled on the new frock and heels that I was going to be wearing to an upcoming wedding that sadly has had to be postponed. At this point I gave myself a strict talking to and finally settled on jeans and a lovely strappy off-the-shoulder top. Plus I made extra effort with my hair and make up. (My hairdresser would have been SO proud!)
What I didn’t realise at the time, is that the temperature outside was of the Arctic variety, and I had to stand outside in the self-distancing queue for 20 minutes before going into the store. Not my finest decision-making moment ever, I tell you – I had to do some star jumps in the store to try to warm myself up before I could start shopping. (At least I decided against giving myself a bikini wax before shopping, as I figured walking down the aisles and dropping my pants to show everyone my good work was not quite socially acceptable behaviour.)
My old Gonubie mate, Pete, got so excited when he took out his dustbin the other day, and he too dressed for the occasion with ‘custom faded jeans, adidas off-white takkies, secret socks, a leather belt and a freshly washed and ironed ice-white T-shirt’. He also hung around for a while just hoping someone would see him in his carefully selected ensemble, but was starting to look a bit stalker-ish after a while and had to go back indoors.
Today, I have to head out to Dischem for some meds and I am already planning my outfit! (I can barely contain my excitement!) So, should I go for the twin-set-and-pearls look or dress down a bit with my smart black work pants and a lovely salmon coloured knitted top? And heels or no heels? The struggle is real I tell you!
