Young racing champ OR Six-year-old biking champ

FOURWAYS - Mitch Mortimer, a pupil of Little Flock Nursery School in Fourways, recently won the last race at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit in the Moto SA Provincial Bike Racing Series.

The series comprises eight rounds, four at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit, one at Polokwane, one at the Rock Raceway in Brakpan, and two at the Zwartkops Short Circuit in Pretoria. Each race day consists of three races and points are given for top placings within each race. Overall winners are then placed and awarded trophies.

Mortimer, who has just turned six, progressed from an average top five finish to winning individual races at the racing series. His best result came on the previous round held at the Vereeniging Kart Circuit where he won and finished second overall. He also managed another win at the Rock Raceway in Brakpan where he qualified in first position.

The exciting series is seen to be a little nerve-wracking as the children who participate race fast and achieve speeds of over 60km/h on their little racing machines.
