Pupils brave harsh weather and participate in winter sports
FOURWAYS - Fourways High School excels in the winter sports fixtures.
Fourways High School hosted Southdowns College in a friendly fixture of sport in all their winter codes on 14 May.
“Upon arriving on a cold and wet morning, we knew that our original plan for the derby day needed to change. Netball courts were unplayable and the astroturf slightly dangerous. The show, however, must go on, and pupils must play,” David Joshua, the school’s sports co-ordinator explained.
He further said that they very quickly cleared what was their catering area and drew up new netball fixtures. “Soon we were playing netball in our multi-sports facility, this was a great experience for all participants,” he said.
Fourways High School won seven of the nine netball fixtures, six of the eight hockey fixtures and three of the four rugby fixtures.
“In the cold and wet weather, both schools were challenged each time they took to the field. I applaud each and every participant for braving the weather and doing Fourways High School proud,” Joshua concluded.
