SUNNINGHILL – St Peter's College celebrates new AstroTurf with a blessing and a few hockey matches...
St Peter’s College recently celebrated its new hockey AstroTurf with a hockey tournament on 10 and 11 June which saw a number of junior and senior teams battle it out on the turf for first place.
Theresa Monoyoudis, marketing manager of the school, explained that the tournament would run annually going forward.

She added that although the college officially broke ground on 30 November, the actual opening and blessing ceremony of the R10-million facility took place on 11 June with the college director of sport, Saranne Hudson, cutting the red ribbon and Father Samuel Masemola conducting the blessing of the new AstrotTurf.
Monoyoudis said, “Artificial turf is now a permanent feature in the hockey world. Hockey is a game of speed and with the introduction of AstroTurf, it has become more exciting and consequently more popular and is the fastest growing sport in South African schools.”
