Dainfern College Prep School hosts inaugural Night Gala
DAINFERN – Dainfern College Preparatory School hosted its first night swimming gala and it was a splash.
Schoolchildren swam their hearts out at Dainfern College Preparatory School’s inaugural Prep School Night Gala.
Redhill School, De la Salle Holy Cross and Grayston Preparatory took part, all competing for the floating trophy.
“Our inaugural night gala was met with incredible enthusiasm by all concerned,” said Brendan Quinn, Dainfern College Senior Preparatory principal.
“We were absolutely delighted to add this event to our many sporting offerings.”
The atmosphere was electric, with swimmers very excited to be competing in an outdoor gala under lights.
Many of the Dainfern College swimmers clocked new personal bests, clearly inspired by the quote on the gala programme: ‘Dare to be the best you can be’. This seemingly contributed to Dainfern winning the gala.
“The novelty factor of the gala being held at night reignites children’s enthusiasm and excitement for the sport and ultimately pride in their school,” said Tessa Shellard, deputy principal: sports and extramural.
“Competition is natural for children, they love competing and benefit from the sense of achievement of giving their best and pushing themselves that little bit harder. Healthy competition is good.
“Whilst the rivalry between swimmers was evident, the camaraderie between the swimmers and the participating schools was commendable. The gala was an absolute winner – it will definitely become an annual event on the school calendar.”
