Tennis coach, Allon Rock rocks Reddam House courts
DAINFERN – This is why tennis is a wonderful sport according to seasoned tennis coach, Allon Rock.
Allon Rock has been a tennis coach for 27 years and he spoke about his academy Allon Rock Academy.
“I and my coaches conduct tennis lessons at Reddam House Helderfontein four times a week,” he said.
“Although the school’s court is unavailable to the public, residents who want to take lessons with the academy can come learn tennis on the school’s grounds.”
Rock said they taught mini tennis on Mondays, Tuesdays they coached U10s to U16s, on Wednesdays they have mini tennis for Grade 1s to 3s and Fridays they taught U10s.
“My coaches are all registered and qualified coaches and we work with children from four years old upwards. Obviously, school tennis comes first but if anyone wants lessons other than school lessons, they can contact us as we do private lessons, semi-private lessons, squad coaching and a boot camp style cardio class which is tennis based.”
He said his love of tennis started at school when he was eight years old. “I went for some private coaching as a child and realised I was good at it. However, I later realised that I could become a coach and I began coaching tennis in 1991 after returning from the United States in 1990 on a tennis scholarship at Washington College where I completed one year studying a business degree.”
He started as an apprentice coach with Pam Meara and began to work for himself in 1993 after qualifying as a national tennis instructor.
“With our academy, we are trying to get as many children into the sport and to teach them the love and skill for the sport. “Tennis is a life sport, you learn the skill and you can play it till a late age in your life while getting a life physical workout.”
