Rivonia tennis finalists serve the net in annual championships

PAULSHOF – The Rivonia Tennis Club’s annual championships matches were a success which saw many players get trophies and assorted tennis items.


Fourways tennis players were excited to get on the court and battle it out in the finals of the annual Rivonia Tennis Club championship. The finals took place on 13 and 14 March at Rivonia Recreation Club which produced outstanding results for players who took part.

The finals were only open to club members and spanned over the two days of the weekend. It saw the highest number of entrants, according to club manager Matthew Bayley.

“Thankfully, there was no big impact on participants this year with Covid. This is the most number of people taking part since I’ve been here, which is great to see,” he said.

The men’s doubles final was a spectacle and Warwic Spence and Bruce Tyson managed to secure the victory. They beat Michael and Jonathan Lowings 6–0, 6–1. Spence, who also played in the men’s singles won against Michael Lowings. Spence said, “I think it was a great game and that we played really well. There were chances we were able to take. “I don’t think the scoreline is a true reflection of the match, it was a lot tougher than it looked. But overall, I’m very happy.”

Other results and winners at the prize-giving included: • Karen Hambridge in the women’s singles • Danielle Brady Moffat and Karen Hambridge in the women’s doubles • Anthea Hurley and Jonathan Lowings in the mixed doubles.
