Muscular Dystrophy Foundation is ready to participate in this year’s 94.7 Ride Joburg Road
FOURWAYS – The Muscular Dystrophy Foundation is calling for people to join in and ride for a good cause in the 947 Ride Joburg.
The Muscular Dystrophy Foundation (MDF) is excited to take part in this year’s 947 Ride Joburg Road despite missing last year’s edition due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The race is set to take place at the FNB Stadium on November 21. Project manager at the foundation Robert Scott said that more awareness raised on muscular dystrophy is crucial as more support will come through for the NPO.
Members of the foundation have taken part in the race since 2012, and had plans to take in the 2020 edition of the race, but missed it due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“MDF supports people affected by muscular dystrophy, the race allows us to generate awareness and support for our cause,” Scott said.
“This is crucial as the more awareness we can create for this disease, the better.”
With Covid-19 closing a lot of businesses and organisations due to being classified as non-essential, Scott described that MDF was no exception as they operated remotely.
Some of the assistance the foundation offers to people and families affected include:
• Provision of access to international information on the specific dystrophies
• Hosting workshops on muscular dystrophy
• Creating public awareness on muscular dystrophy issues and disability
• Aiding in specialised disability equipment.
“Safety was and is most important to us, so we did a lot of work remotely with our members to limit contact, as well as many online fundraising events. “We were fortunate enough to still have received donations during the lockdown in 2020 which we could not be more grateful for,” he told Fourways Review.
Scott said that communities are encouraged to get involved in the race as well. Since entries for the race are still open, the official number of participants racing for MDF are uncertain.
“Community members can take part in the road race, 25km and 55km mountain bike, as well as the kids’ race. Any donations are always welcome and go a long way to helping us render services to our members.”
