St Peter’s tennis players players stand out

PAULSHOF – Tennis stars at St Peter’s Girls Prep made their school proud after qualifying for a national leg of a tennis tournament to be held in Soweto in October.

Tennis players from St Peter’s Girls Prep had standout performances in a provincial tournament final on September 11 and 12 in Pretoria.

The top four tennis players at the school took part in the regional final of the BNP Paribas Rising Star Tennis Tournament earlier this year. With their win of the final, they qualified for the provincial leg of the tournament.

During the Gauteng BNP Paribas Rising Stars Tennis Provincial Final held in Pretoria, the team played a series of round-robin matches, then met Tennis Angels, a strong development team in the semi-finals.

Director of sports at the school Andrew Steyn said they were extremely proud of the girls’ performance. “Saturday’s matches consisted of round-robin matches which saw our girls come up against Monument Park and Midstream College. The final was played against St Mary’s Waverley. Our girls fought hard and once again took the match and were crowned the Gauteng Provincial Primary School Champions.”
