National College Golf Championship goes from strength to strength
Dainfern College hosts the National College Golf Championship for the 23rd time.
Dainfern College hosted the annual National College Golf Championship for the 23rd time at Dainfern Country Club.
Twenty-eight teams from 22 schools across South Africa and Zimbabwe participated in the event. Girls and boys took part in the individual competition and teams consisted of three players each. Results were calculated using a gross format.

The event organiser and teacher at Dainfern College Anthony Egbers said, “This year’s National College Golf Championships was a huge success. More than 90 students participated and the level of golf played was outstanding.

“This year was for the first time it was played on a gross-score-only basis, meaning that the overall individual winner was the player who shot the lowest score, just like in any professional event. “The event has gone from strength to strength and next year’s event will be even more competitive with more schools from outside Johannesburg. We can’t wait to start planning the next competition.”

The South African Golf Development Board’s combination of Tawriq Abrahams, Rezario Adams, and Kael Strydom achieved the best overall performance in the team gross competition. St John’s College came second and Trinity House came third. The hosts will hope to do better next year as they achieved a creditable sixth place.

Individual results:
- Gross winner: David Bennet (Curro Hazeldean)
- Runner-up: Jayden Hoskins (St John’s)
- Third place: Liam Britz (Steyn City School)
- Top Lady: Casey Twidale (Curro Aurora)
- Espirit de Corp: Nathan Kramer (St David’s Marist Inanda)
