Champions Academy youth teams shine in weekend football action
Champions Academy’s young athletes demonstrated incredible resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship across all age groups in the Rand Central Football Association League.
Over the weekend of June 14-16, young athletes from Champions Academy in Chartwell showcased their talent and determination, demonstrating growth, resilience, and sportsmanship across all age groups in the Rand Central Football Association League.
From a thrilling U14 draw to impressive efforts by the U8 and U11 teams, the weekend highlighted the academy’s commitment to developing skilled players and confident and character-driven individuals. Despite challenging results, the focus remains on learning, teamwork, and community spirit as our young champions continue their journey on the field.
U14 coach Owen Vundla praised the team’s fighting spirit. “ Our U14 squad delivered an impressive performance, battling to a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Panorama,” he said. “I am very proud of the boys’ resilience. We came back from behind, and that shows character. This team is growing with each game, and that’s what matters most.”

The youngest members of the academy, the U8 team, put on a spirited display against Randburg United. Although they narrowly missed out on securing points, coach Tatenda Mapundu highlighted their energy and teamwork.
“The kids showed great energy and teamwork today. We may not have won, but we are seeing fantastic individual improvements each week. The bright future of our little champions is evident in their enthusiasm and progress.”
The U11 team faced a challenging game against Midrand United but demonstrated tremendous determination and effort. Coach Kamohelo Moobi shared his pride in the team’s growth. “It was a challenging game, but the boys kept their heads up and never stopped trying. Every match is a valuable lesson for their growth. The boys have shown tremendous growth and determination from the start to now.”

Obi Raymond of the academy said, “At Champions Academy, we want to remind everyone that this journey is about development, not just results. Our players are gaining experience, building character, and learning to love the beautiful game. Thank you for your continued support.
