Meet Dainfern’s very own rapper

DAINFERN – What hip-hop rapper, Yanga Ntshakaza had to say about his journey thus far in the entertainment industry.

Dainfern resident and up-and-coming hip-hop rapper, Yanga Ntshakaza, shared his hopes and dreams of being in the entertainment industry with Fourways Review.

“What got me into rapping was the influence I received from my brother who introduced me to hip-hop rappers such as Eminem and 50 Cent, but I was mostly influenced by South African hip-hop group, Skwatta Kamp,” Ntshakaza said.

He was born in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape and grew up in Queenstown. He arrived in Johannesburg in 2006 and studied towards a BA in Audio Visual Production Management at the University of Johannesburg. In his second year, he got a junior position in the university’s Senior Representative Council (SRC) which was where he met Skwatta Kamp member, rapper Siyabonga Metane, also known as Slikour during an event at the university. Slikour hired him as a website administrator for his company, Ventilation Productions.

“Before rapping, I was moulded into a film producer as I directed music videos such as AKA’s Run Jozi, Thabo JR Bogopa’s Bob Mabena, Senzo Kwesta Vilakazi’s Boom Shaka Laka and Bonginkosi Kid X Mahlangu’s Cooler Bag,” he explained.

The 28-year-old expressed that what set him apart from other artists was his sound as he is a stone listener of Kwaito music which he infuses into his songs.

“I believe that my sound is quite different from what is put out there as it also depicts how I fell in love with the hip-hop genre. The way I rap is generally Kwaito influenced as it can also be seen as dance rap.”

Ntshakaza got his musical break in 2014 after featuring on rapper, AKA’s Run Jozi song which also featured rapper, Ntokozo KO Mdluli.

“What people should expect from me is my extended play which is set to come out in October called Touch Is A Mover and a single in September,” he said.

“My hope… for the next five years is to make enough money to build my mother a house, own a recording label and start a production house which will help make videos for people who do not have enough funds to afford professional videos. I also wish to impart my knowledge of film producing to aspiring individuals.”
