A sparkling bark in the dark
FOURWAYS – Four guide dogs get sponsorship at the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind annual gala at Montecasino.
Dressed like royalty, the community and businesses enjoyed the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind’s (GDA) spectacular Spark in the Dark gala in Montecasino’s ballroom.
“An astonishing R655 796 was raised on the evening,” said Juliette Powel, head of marketing for the association.
The puppies were the stars of the show when Mrs South Africa finalists brought them into the ballroom and the cuties were put up for sponsorship.

“We are proud to say that at least four of the six puppies were sponsored during the pledge drive,” said Powel.
She explained that the purpose of this pledge drive was for individuals and companies to pay tribute to loved ones and four-pawed companions who have passed on.
Should you sponsor a dog, the association keeps you informed on a regular basis of the pup’s progress for a year so that you can track your puppy’s programme. “It is an extremely fulfilling and rewarding feeling for any individual, and it’s something tangible.”
Another highlight of the evening was a performance by the visually impaired participant of The Voice SA 2016, Vernon Barnard, from Cape Town.
Powel thanked all the sponsors, such as Beatrix Events who planned the evening and tied everything together.
“SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind was overwhelmed by the generosity of the donors, sponsors, attendees and everyone involved in making this event a reality for us,” said Powel.
“As this event is one of our flagship events of the year, it was absolutely incredible to have a full house and we look forward to having an even more #pawsome event next year.”
