Mrs SA contestant raises money for Cansa during a Girls Night In
FOURWAYS – Mrs SA finalist Nicole Capper decided to host a Girls Night In event recently to help raise funds for Cansa this breast cancer awareness month. Find out more here.
October is breast cancer awareness month, and some Fourways women wanted to use the opportunity to celebrate life.
Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa finalist, Nicole Capper and her friend Cayleigh Harper, the owner of Sensational Beds Fourways, hosted a Girls Night In event at the shop in Fourways Junction.
“[Cayleigh] and I were chatting one night and came up with the idea to put on an event to raise money for the Cancer Association of South Africa [Cansa],” said Capper.
“We had a couple of aims – we wanted to raise awareness for women with breast cancer and raise money for Cansa but more than that, we wanted to celebrate life.”
Capper and the other 24 Mrs SA finalists are required to each host a fundraising event in support of Cansa as part of the competition. She had already held her event earlier this year but decided to go above and beyond and host another one.

The evening was jam-packed with fun and entertainment for about 120 guests to enjoy, including a special dance performance by Chantalle de Jager of the Russian Ballet Academy of SA and a show of motorbike riding skills by Capper’s husband Brian who is a Supermoto champion.
Media personality Stacey Holland acted as emcee for the night.
Other guests included Claire Gardiner who took part in last year’s Mrs SA contest and won the title of Mrs Charity for being the finalist to raise the most money (R100 000) for Cansa.
Munnik Marais, the corporate relations manager for Cansa, was also a guest on the night.
“Tonight is really about raising awareness about breast cancer,” he said. “The money raised by Nicole tonight will be pooled together with all the money raised by Mrs SA finalists in order to buy a new FotoFinder machine which is used [by doctors] to examine people’s skin for cancer.”

Capper concluded, “Life is not always easy, whether we are facing cancer or a myriad of other challenges. All we can do is celebrate life.”
