Rising star, Reuben De Kooker to represent South Africa in the US
FOURWAYS – Rising actor, Reuben De Kooker who is also a Fourways High School matric student, had this to say about his upcoming trip to America.
Fourways resident and rising actor, Reuben De Kooker is set to represent South Africa at the International Arts Talent Showcase in Orlando, Florida in the United States of America at the end of July.
“I have always loved making people laugh, but I only really found my love for performing around the age of 14. I would say that I only really started taking acting seriously in 2017,” De Kooker said.
When asked how he felt about being able to represent South Africa in America, De Kooker said, “I feel honoured that I get to go with my fellow, extremely talented, South African artists and get an incredible opportunity to show how amazing South Africa is.”
“It can be overwhelming sometimes if you think about it, but I cannot wait to show the world what talent we have!”
He explained that he balanced school and the training at the academy by working extra hard to make sure he keeps up to date and does not fall behind. “I just need to keep focused and stop procrastinating. I also have an amazing support system in place in the form of my family, teachers and friends.”
The Fourways High School matric student explained that seeing that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him, he was going straight to the New York Film Academy to make sure he learnt as much as possible.
When asked who his favourite actor or muse was, De Kooker added that renowned American actor, Johnny Depp influenced him and gave him a lot of inspiration. “I love his ability to disappear into his characters and give them life to tell their story, that I think is the beauty of acting.”
“If you told me last year that I would be going to the United States to perform on an international level, I would not have believed you, at all!”
