Lonehill dancers selected to participate in international contest

LONEHILL – Eleven Lonehill-based dancers will compete against the best dancers around the world next year after they qualified for the World Lyrical Dance Federation World Finals recently.


Eleven talented local dancers are using their fancy footwork to get all the way to Ireland after they recently qualified for the World Lyrical Dance Federation (WLDF) world finals.

The athletes, all from the Natasha Academy of Dancing studio, based at Lonehill Shopping Centre, earned their passage after participating in the WLDF Competition 2020 which was held at the Roodepoort Theatre at the end of February. A total of 13 dancers from the studio participated in the event in both the lyrical and contemporary dance sections of the competition.

“We had very little time to prepare for this competition, but the dancers all worked so hard and brought their best on stage,” explained Natasha Ehlers, the owner of the studio and a teacher there.

“The standard of the competition was extremely high and the solos sections were quite large, with at leat 15 dancers in a section.

“Only the top six dancers in each section were placed, and these dancers are now listed on the World Ranking Table.”

In total, the studio managed to achieve six placings on the day, which are as follows:

• Danni-Leigh Slater achieved 1st place lyrical solo for U12 Level 1, which had 20 dancers in the section. Danni-Leigh also achieved the highest lyrical solo Level 1 score for up to U18 years, the second-highest score for lyrical solo Level 1 across all age groups, as well as the fourth overall highest score for all levels and genres across the whole competition

• Fallyn Braum achieved third place contemporary dance solo for U10

Level 1

• Riley Nagel achieved fifth place contemporary dance solo for U12

Level 1

• Kiara de Maudave achieved sixth place lyrical solo for U14 Level 1

• The contemporary dance group achieved first place contemporary dance group for U16 Level 1 – Dependency

• The lyrical group achieved first place lyrical group Under 16 Level 1.

These dancers will represent South Africa in the WLDF World Finals, which are planned to take place in Dublin, Ireland in 2021.
