KnitWits celebrate World Crochet Day

Papachinos Broadacres buzzed with colour and creativity as crafters, corporate partners, and community members gathered to mark World Crochet Day.

The KnitWits celebrated World Crochet Day in style at Papachinos Broadacres today, where more than 70 knitters and crocheters gathered to share in a day filled with colour, creativity, and community spirit.

Papachinos generously provided the venue, along with teas, coffees, cool drinks, and food, creating a warm and welcoming space for crafters to socialise while working on their projects.
A highlight of the day was the blanket handover by iSON Xperiences, a multinational company that recently partnered with 67 Blankets.

Employees of iSON Xperiences, spent months knitting and crocheting, before handing over more than 2 000 squares (20cm x 20cm each) and at least 20 full-size blankets to the KnitWits.

Zain Reddiar, global chief human resources and corporate services officer of iSON Xperiences explained their partnership: “As a socially responsible corporate organisation, we generously contribute to social projects annually by partnering with NPOs.

“While we make donations, we were looking for a project where employees could participate. We believe that when employees participate, they too become socially aware and positively contribute to the building of the nation. 67 Blankets was the perfect partner, committed, consistent, and invested in preserving the humanity and dignity of recipients.”

He added that the handover at World Crochet Day was more than symbolic. “It is not something we take lightly. For us, it’s a mammoth achievement and celebration of employees’ efforts, as well as a celebration of the company and its commitment to uplifting the communities we serve.”

On behalf of the KnitWits, Lisa Manger said the celebration captured the heart of what the movement is about. “World Crochet Day is about more than just stitches; it’s about community, creativity, and compassion. To see corporate partners like iSON Xperiences embrace this work and bring their teams on board is incredibly inspiring. Together, we are weaving warmth and dignity into the lives of those who need it most.”

Guests came dressed in their most colourful crochet creations, from bold berets and scarves to quirky brooches and gilets. Prizes were awarded for the most creative outfits, adding extra fun and laughter to the day.

The KnitWits community also kept their needles and hooks busy, steadily working towards the next big project on April 21, 2026, the United Nations World Day of Creativity and Innovation.

Manger explained that the squares and blankets created will form part of a larger initiative planned for that milestone. Beyond the yarn and stitches, the day was about connection, creativity, and giving back.
