Help young Albemarle model take the crown

Albemarle youngster named as a semi-finalist in the Miss High School SA 2018 competition.

She is young, beautiful and ready to take on the modelling world.

This is 15-year-old Albemarle resident and Hoërskool Alberton learner Jolene Stander.

The youngster started modelling at the age of 13 and already has a number of achievements to her name, namely first runner-up in the Figures National Student Model of the Year 2017 in the fashion division, IMTA Talent Search winner 2018 in the M! Division and Figures International Model of the Year 2018 winner in which she won a trip to be part of the Figures AIM project in March 2019 on the MSC Musica.

“I thank Figures for the support and training they give me in my quest to reach my goals,” Jolene said.

Jolene has also just been named as a semi-finalist in the Miss High School SA 2018 competition.

The competition is aimed at identifying bright, young individuals who will be ambassadors to represent high school learners in South Africa, in various initiatives, with the main one being to support the Girl Power Foundation (www.girlpowerfoundation.co.za).

The pageant has over the years seen the rise of some of the finest young women in the country.

The objective of the pageant is to empower young girls through education and participation in charity work, therefore, building social awareness and responsibility in them.

It also helps to build confidence and leadership skills.

The winning young women will become role models in their schools, communities, in other schools and to young children across the country.

This year, 24 semi-finalists have been selected out of hundreds of entries from across the country. Each semi-finalist is required to raise R2 000 towards the pageant and the Girl Power Foundation, either by getting sponsorship or through fund-raising initiatives.

The pageant is organised and hosted by GEES! Entertainment (www.geesent.com) and the finale will be held later in the year in Johannesburg.

Jolene told the GCN her mom Joey inspired her to become a model and her goals as a model are to better people’s lives and become a role model for girls in need.

She said to become a model you must have confidence and be able to handle disappointment and work hard to reach your goals.

“Never give up,” Jolene said.

“The thrill you get when you express yourself through fashion in front of a crowd is amazing.”

With regard to the Miss High School SA competition, Jolene said, “It is a new learning experience for me and I can’t wait to meet all the semi-finalists and work on projects to uplift the community.

When she is not modelling Jolene enjoys playing jukskei and is the captain of one of the u-16 teams at school.

She also enjoys group public speaking and loves listening to music and spending time with her friends.

She describes herself as a people’s person and someone who likes to laugh.

“I care about people and try to help where I can and I am crazy about the fashion industry,” she said.

Jolene said her mother is her biggest role model as she has shown her that no matter what tragedies or disappointments are thrown at you, you can still have a positive attitude towards life.

“My motto is ‘Never give up’, no matter how hard the circumstances because if you do, it means you never tried hard enough,” said Jolene.

The community can help Jolene win the competition by voting for her.

To vote send the following words all in capital letters: GEES MHSSA JOLENE to 37587.

There is a charge for the SMS and the voting lines close on October 5.
