Bikes galore at 1 000 Bike Show

Community members and motorcycle enthusiasts have revving good time at annual 1 000 Bike Show.

The Classic Motorcycle Club’s (CMC) annual 1 000 Bike Show revved into Germiston last weekend.

This historic event once again attracted motorcycle enthusiasts and visitors from all walks of life.

The show was held at the Germiston City Sports Grounds and there were more than 400 classic and modern motorcycles on display for visitors to enjoy over the two days, as well as a host of stalls and a variety of interesting models ridden to the show by visitors, which could be viewed in the parking area.

“About 7 500 visitors attended this year’s show, which was slightly down from last year,” said CMC organiser Rusty Thorns.

“We believe the date-clash with the Classic Car Show at Nasrec Expo Centre affected attendance.

“Unfortunately, there was also no support from the major motorcycle distributors this year and the number of classic and customised motorcycles on display was less than in previous years.

“It is difficult to understand why the major brands failed to take up the opportunity of having a presence at a well-supported and well-organised event such as the 1 000 Bike Show, which has been staged since 1985.”

Though the show was smaller than previous years, it did not lack in quality or variety, with a number of usual exhibits on show, including a rare Italian Volugrafo Bimbo minicar, a trike powered by a turbocharged BMW V8 engine and a Moto Guzzi load carrier.
