Cleaning staff is appreciated at Bertha Gxowa Hospital

Since the pandemic started, frontline workers and public servants have been working long hours to ensure people are safe. The public servants who are most exposed are often cleaning staff who are often forgotten when frontline workers are acknowledged.

Ekurhuleni district health chief director Terrance Magoro visited Bertha Gxowa Hospital recently to thank workers and show appreciation to the cleaning staff for their work.

“Cleaning is one of the most important industries in the world. Cleaners work day and night to ensure the environments we work in are clean and safe.”

He applauded the Bertha Gxowa team for the work they have been doing despite fears of the virus.

“When cases come into the hospital, you are the people who come to make sure the space is safe again,” Magoro told workers.

The organiser of the appreciation ceremony, district quality assurance manager Beatrice Peloagae, said it was important to appreciate the cleaners because she has seen the dedication they put into their work.

“I call them the flying squad because of how diligently they have worked. They ensured everyone who walked into the hospital is safe at all times.”

A trophy and certificate was presented to the team leaders by the chief director.
