Primrose youth desk initiates campaign for safer school environments

Maome said they would continue patrolling around the schools and do school searches throughout the year.

The Primrose Youth Crime Prevention Desk initiated a comprehensive crime awareness campaign in Primrose on April 24, marking a concerted effort to address rising concerns about youth involved in crime.

The campaign follows a series of similar events conducted across sectors one, two, and three in Primrose.

In recent weeks, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk, the SAPS and stakeholders have attempted to create safer school environments.

These efforts included visits to local primary and high schools to remove illegal items, such as cigarettes, vapes, knives, and other sharp objects from the premises.

They advised teachers and learners to use prescribed scissors to ensure safety.

Sergeant Styles Maome, the social co-ordinator at the Primrose SAPS, highlighted the importance of educating learners about the consequences of crime and the necessity of adhering to school rules.

In addressing social issues, including bullying, smoking and harassment, learners were encouraged to prioritise academic excellence while maintaining a positive school environment.

Maome underscored the importance of collaboration between schools and law enforcement agencies, emphasising the need for principals to maintain open communication channels for help when required.

The Primrose SAPS intends to sustain its contribution to school safety by continuing patrols and conducting regular school searches.
