Nicholson has published various academic papers on carnivore conservation and recently obtained a PhD in Ecological Science at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Besides her role as the manager of the ALD, she is the lead carnivore scientist at the Endangered Wildlife Trust, where she assists with the data management of EWT’s carnivore projects.
