Take a trip down sporting memory lane

The Samsung South African Sport Hall of Fame comes to Carnival City following a successful exhibition at Sun City during the December 2015 holidays.

Sports enthusiasts young and old are encouraged to celebrate the country’s rich sporting history at the expo which will be housed for a limited time at Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre from April 9 to 24.

Amongst the attractions will be the opportunity for visitors to test their skills with virtual simulators for the golf, rugby and soccer disciplines.

Visitors will also get to meet and greet some of South Africa’s sporting greats from today and yesteryear, as well as have an exclusive look at what they can expect from the future permanent home of the South African Sport Hall of Fame at Sun City’s Entertainment Centre which is currently being built.

Live sporting events will be broadcast on a big screen, including Super Rugby matches with celebrity guests such as Danie Gerber, Chester Williams, Derick Hougaard and more, on April 9, 17 and 23.

The roaming Samsung South African Sport Hall of Fame is brought to Carnival City by Samsung and Sun International.

The official partners of the South African Sport Hall of Fame will also be showcasing their latest products, including Samsung and Subaru.

Food, drinks, sports clothing and memorabilia will be available for purchase from various exhibitors.

Samsung is an exclusive brand partner of the Hall of Fame during 2016.

“It is a remarkable opportunity for us to show how Samsung technology can be used to enhance and create an interactive experience of this magnitude while recognising the abilities of our talented sports men and women,” said Mike van Lier, director of the enterprise business division, Samsung Electronics SA.

Opening times are 11am to 8pm on Sundays through Thursdays, and 10am to 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

A nominal entrance fee will apply to all guests over 12 years old, children under 12 will gain free entrance.

“We’re very excited about the rebirth of the SA Sport Hall of Fame,” said the Hall of Fame’s Johnny Burger.

“We support and endorse the 32 sporting disciplines recognised by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee – SASCOC – so we have a lot of ground to cover, both literally and figuratively.

“The Samsung Roaming Exhibition is the perfect tool to increase awareness and educate our future sporting legends about the Hall of Fame and our endeavours.”
