Vosloorus tennis player wins Gauteng tournament

Thabang Malatsi (15) from Vosloorus Tennis Club (VTC) won the Gauteng East Mini One tennis tournament that was played at the Benoni Tennis Complex recently.

Twelve players from VTC participated in the three-day tournament.

Malatsi participated in the boys u-16 category.

He played four matches on the day and won them all convincingly.

He won the first match 6-4 and 7-5, the quarter-final 6-4 and 7-5 and the semi-finals match 6-2 and 6-4.

In the finals, Malatsi played against Rynhard Roothman from Pretoria and won 6-2 and 7-5.

Another player who made VTC proud was Nkosikhona Ubisi (11), who made the semi-finals in the u-12 category. Unfortunately, he lost the match.

Michael Lelosa, VTC coach, said the tournament was enjoyable and challenging.

“The tournament took the players to another level. I can see that the challenge made them grow as players as they were competing with the best players from all over the country,” said Lelosa.

Lelosa said he was very proud of all the players who represented VTC.
